About baseet challenge

Are you passionate about Science, Arts & Humanities or Business studies? Do you aspire to facilitate a concept of your choice to the public? Are you an educator, a science communicator, or a professor? Are you a student, or science enthusiastic? Do you think you can simplify a scientific concept in a three-minute video and write an article about it? Are you looking forward to expanding your professional network, inspiring the public, and communicating your experiences with others? If your answer is YES, then Baseet challenge is the right place for you!

Who are we looking for?

Baseet Challenge has two tracks to give an opportunity to a larger scale of participants to join and simplify to the public concepts from Baseet fields: Business, Arts and humanities, Science, Engineering, Environment and Technology. Baseet for Professionals welcomes educators, science communicators, professors, performers, artists, practctionalists, theater performers, and broadcasters. Baseet for Juniors welcomes students, science enthusiasts, and beginners in the science communication field.

Baseet challenge goals

  • Science is not completed until it’s communicated! Baseet’s goal is to facilitate and simplify science, giving an opportunity for all Science, Arts & Humanities and Business enthusiasts, from students to professors, to present and communicate their ideas with the public. 
  • Baseet Challenge enhances the idea of simplifying academic disciplines all while maintaining the unbreakable link between all fields.
  • As a professional, we aspire to give you an opportunity to share your knowledge with a larger scale of the public, help you expand your professional network, and provide you with a  professional training program.
  • As a student, Baseet wants to take your hand and put you on the right path of science communication through improving your presentation skills, research skills, and writing skills, helping you meet experts from different fields.

Baseet for professionals

  • You are an educator, science communicator, professor, university staff, practitioner, or researcher.
  • Aged between 23 and 50. 
  • You are specialized in one of the Baseet academic disciplines, STEM education, a science communicator, or academic researcher. 
  • You have conducted research and want to share your achievement with the public. 
  • You have an academic concept to simplify for the public or students.
  • You can simplify your concept in a three-minute video and create a basset Resource. 
  • You can write an educational Baseet Resource of 700 to 1500 words about your presentation.
  • You can integrate a STEM resource with the necessary business skills, Arts & Humanities studies.

Baseet for Professionals offers you an opportunity to

  • A larger scale of outreach, better engagement with the learners, and exposure to new areas in the science communication field. 
  • Simplify a Baseet concept and facilitate it to the public.
  • Create a Baseet educational resource for students and other educators.
  • Further enhancement of your presentation skills, science communication skills, and scientific writing skills.
  • Create a Baseet profile and make your work accessible to the public.
  • Communicate with other professionals in different fields as Baseet believes in the importance of science integration and diversity.
  • Receive media coverage as Baseet Challenge is a global competition.
  • Receiving professional training program by a number of experts. 
  • Possibly being one of Baseet Challenge winners and receiving special prizes, trophies as well as unprecedented media exposure.

Baseet for juniors

  • You are a student, science enthusiast, a passionate individual about any of the Baseet fields: Business, Arts and Humanities, Science, Engineering, Environment, and Technology.   
  • Aged between 17 and 25. 
  • You can simplify a concept in a three-minute video and write an article of 500 to 700 words about the concept. 
  • You can integrate a STEM resource with the necessary business skills, Arts & Humanities studies.

Baseet for Juniors offers you an opportunity to

  • Improve your presentation skills and science communication skills. 
  • Learn scientific research basics and rules; Research, Write, Present.
  • Receive constant guidelines from specialists. 
  • Introduce your talent to the world as you will share your ideas globally.
  • A larger scale of outreach to the public, and exposure to new areas in the science communication field. 
  • Simplify a Baseet concept and facilitate it to the public.
  • Create a Baseet educational resource for students and educators.
  • Create a Baseet profile and make your work accessible to the public.
  • Communicate with professionals in the Science communication field and other Baseet and STEM fields.
  • Receive media coverage as Baseet Challenge is a global competition.
  • Receiving professional training program by a number of experts. 
  • Possibly being one of Baseet Challenge winners and receiving special prizes, trophies as well as unprecedented media exposure.

Timeline

August 30th: September 30th, 2022
Registration.
Registration opens for Baseet Challenge annually from August 30th to September 30th, 2022.

October 1st: October 15th, 2022
Baseet training program.
From October 1st to October 15th, Participants will enter orientation sessions where they will be introduced to Baseet Principles, have access to a variety of educational resources, enhance their presentation skills, research skills  and writing skills.

October 30th, 2022
Video and resources submission.
By the end of October, participants will submit a three-minute video and a resource according to the guidelines of their own track; either Baseet for Professionals or Baseet for Juniors.

November 1st: November 16th, 2022
Judgment.
Videos will go through a judgment process from November 1st to November 16th.
During this stage, you could gain extra points through:

  • 5 extra points will be taken into account for the media outreach If you convince the media to talk about your participation in the competition.
  • 10 extra points will be taken into account for public engagement; for example, the highest video views. These points will be counted till November 15th.

November 20th, 2022
Semifinals.
20 competitors; 10 for each Baseet track will be qualified for the finalists.
Baseet Toplist 2022:
The top 20 will enter Baseet Toplist.

November 21st: November 30th, 2022
Toplist professional training.
A professional training program will be provided for the finalists by a number of experts in science communication.

December 15th, 2022
Toplist submission.
After receiving the required training, the top 20 should submit a Baseet resource and three-minute video according to the guidelines of their respective tracks.

December 16th: December 30th, 2022
The Judgment process.
public voting will be open from December 16th till December 30th
During this stage, you could gain extra points through:

  • 5 extra points will be taken into account for the media outreach If you convince the media to talk about your participation in the competition.
  • 10 extra points will be taken into account for public engagement; for example, the highest video views. These points will be counted till December 15th.

January 1st, 2023
Announcing the winners.
You should be ready for your crowning! Top 3 winners in each track will be announced, and your hard work shall pay off!
Get ready to be all over the newsheadlines, a gusset in T.V shows and receive a number of prizeses. You have finally made it!

The top 20 will enter Baseet Toplist.

Toplist professional training.

A professional training program will be provided for the finalists by a number of experts in science communication.

Toplist submission.

After receiving the required training, the top 20 should submit a Baseet resource and three-minute video according to the guidelines of their respective tracks.

The judgment process.

Prizes

  • Winners in Baseet challenge will receive:
  • A scholarship to join Baseet Science Communication Fellowship Program to enhance your science communication, STEM engagement and presentation skills, in addition to developing your scientific writing and research visualization skills.
  • Medals, trophies, and certificates.

Judgment criteria

1-Video Judgment Criteria:

  • 20% for the research and the compelling idea: references and resources.
  • 30% for the simplicity of presenting: short, simple, and to the point.
  • 30% for presentation skills and charisma.
  • 10% for the public engagement with your content: share the video and engage the public with your concept. 
  • 5% for the video production and visual appeal: you need a comfortable, suitable, and calm place to record your video, and a clear sound system. 
  • 5% for the media spotlight on you: You are in a worldwide competition! Let the media know and speak about you.

2-Baseet Resource Judgment Criteria:

  • 20% for the content of your research: must be up to date, includes references and resources, follows academic writing rules. 
  • 20% for meeting Baseet’s main objective:
  • Baseet integrates STEM academic disciplines with the necessary business skills and enhances the humanitarian and artistic aspects of life.
  • 20% for creativity in simplifying the concept, and introducing it in a new, simple and easy way. 
  • 10% for proper grammar, writing style, and fine language. 
  • 25% for following the Baseet Resources format: 
    • Clear learning objectives.
    • Instructions.
    • Observations.
    • Conclusion. 
    • Discussion and questions.
    • Link to Baseet principle.

For instance

  • Objective: Teaching Newton’s third law: If an object A exerts a force on object B, then object B must exert a force of equal magnitude and opposite direction back on object A.- Instructions: Building rockets. 
  • Observations: The rocket moves forward by expelling gas backward at high velocity. 
  • Conclusion: The rocket exerts a large backward force on the gas in the rocket combustion chamber, and the gas therefore exerts a large reaction force forward on the rocket, causing it to move forward. 
  • Discussion: What would happen if we launched the rocket towards the earth?
